I'm going to share something with you that I rarely talk about.
When I was 18 years old something happened that changed the course of my life.

As I exited the freeway, the sun blinded me and I didn't see the semi-truck that was parked too far from the curb on the side of the road.

Going 50 miles per hour, I smashed into the back of the parked semi-truck.

My face first hit the steering wheel, my head then shattered the windshield and my chest broke the steering wheel in three places embedding it into the dashboard.

My car was totaled.

As the emergency doctors were sewing up my face they told me that it was a miracle that I was alive.

I had to drop out of college for a year to recover and I didn't want to show my face in public because of the giant scar on my chin.

So, why am I telling you this?

It took me a while to get to this point, but I came to understand that my scar was a gift.

My scar is a daily reminder that the only time I have to pursue my dreams is right now because life is fragile and can change in a split second. And, most importantly, not to let fear get in the way.

My purpose — and hope — in sharing this personal story with you, is to inspire you (without having to experience a near-fatal car accident) to follow your heart.
