Tips for How to Introduce Your Book on Video to Sell More Books

Today, more than ever, if you want to sell books, you must record a short video so potential readers can immediately understand how your book will benefit them.

Authors often avoid making book introduction videos because they are shy or introverted and may need extra encouragement and support. Or, they are simply busy completing, publishing, or launching their books.

Whatever the reason, the book introduction video keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the to-do list. I want to make it easier for you.

That's why I created this simple fill-in-the-blank “How to Introduce Your Book on Video to Sell More Books” template.

Here's how to get started right now:

  • Download the free template and then take a few minutes to fill in the blanks with your answers.
  • Chop your script in half! After you draft the answers to the questions in the script template, make the answers SHORTER! Fewer words are always best on video. Think about how to chop your answers in half and still convey your message. Yes, in half!
  • Get Feedback! Run your answers by a friend, colleague, or family member you can trust to give honest feedback. And, then, LISTEN to what they are saying. Don't try to explain your reasons for your answers. Think about how you can listen to their responses and then rework your answers to incorporate this feedback so that your videos resonate with your potential readers.

Now that you've tightened up your script, here are a few more pro tips:

  • Practice reading your answers out loud. How does it sound?
  • Are you being authentic?
  • Are you using a promotional voice rather than being yourself?
  • Remember to smile and look directly into the camera lens like you are speaking with your closest friend across the kitchen table.
  • Always include a call-to-action (CTA). What would you like the viewers to do next? (e.g., Buy your book, Download a freebie, Join your Facebook group, etc.). Notice that I am using action verbs.

Most importantly… stop criticizing yourself about how you appear on camera and focus on your readers instead. Remember why you wrote the book in the first place. The video is an opportunity to connect with your readers on a deeper level and share insight into how your expertise and book's content will benefit them.

You can do this. I believe in you!
